Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Required Skills and Knowledge

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

service mine plant and equipment on at least two occasions, including:

conducting prestart checks on the service vehicle

checking and topping up service vehicle levels of fuel, lubricants and water

maintaining the service bay and equipment

identifying and sourcing replacement parts and service tools

conducting start up, park-up and shut-down procedures on service vehicle

operating the service vehicle

servicing of plant and equipment

completing servicing schedule and written maintenance records.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for servicing mine plant and equipment

work effectively with others to service mine plant and equipment in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.
